CPT-Symmetric Universe

After reviewing the notion of CPT symmetry, I will introduceourproposal that the state of the universe does *not* spontaneously violate CPT.Instead, the universe after the big bang is the CPT image of the universebefore it, both classically and quantum mechanically. The pre- and post-bangepochs may be thought of as a universe/anti-universe pair, emerging fromnothing directly into a hot, radiation-dominated era. CPT symmetry selectsthe QFT vacuum state on such a spacetime, providing a new interpretationof the cosmological baryon asymmetry, as well as a particularly economicalexplanation for the cosmological dark matter. This proposal makes a numberof testable observational predictions, which I will review, and has interestingthings to say about other cosmological questions, like the origin of the elec-tromagnetic arrow of time. If time permits, I will also discuss the possiblerelation to an intriguing, recently- proposed left-right-symmetric extensionof the standard model of particle physics.
