ABSTRACT:
Crafting Sculptural Instruments
Donald Fortescue is a professor of art and design at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. In 2019, he completed his PhD at the Australian National University where he researched the common ground between science and art. This research involved fieldwork in the Arctic and the Antarctic. In the Antarctic, he was hosted by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and created original works using data from the array. He is in France with a new instrument created to be deployed in conjunction with the KM3NeT array in the Mediterranean Sea. Donald will talk about the development of his sculptural instruments and the potential for art/science collaboration.
